Meals
All meals are provided in large, comfortable cafeterias on campus, except on excursions when a packed-lunch is given to all students. Wholesome and varied food is served and special dietary requirements can be catered for. Please advise us at the time of enrolment if a student has any special dietary requirements.
Laundry
Laundry facilities are available at the residence halls where students are accommodated. Bed linen and towels are changed once a week, but no other laundry is included in the course fees. If students wish to wash clothes during their stay, they will be responsible for doing so. The cost is $2.25 per wash and $1.25 per tumble dry.
Emergencies
A 24-hour emergency telephone number will be given in writing to students. All students will be issued with an identity card, which explains what action is to be followed in the event of an emergency or other difficulty. Students will be told to carry this card at all times.
All students must provide an emergency contact number to the staff on their first day. This should normally be the number of a parent/ guardian.
Breakages Deposit
A breakages deposit of 100 USD per student will be collected from all students on the first day of their course. This is to cover loss of keys and/or any damage caused to the facilities. Please note that the cost of master replacement keys is normally 70 USD. This deposit will be returned at the end of the course, minus any charged incurred. On departure all rooms will be inspected.
What to Bring
The weather in the San Francisco Bay Area during July and August is usually warm and settled. Temperatures typically range from 19-21 degrees centigrade / 67-71 degrees Fahrenheit. There should be very little rain and lots of sunshine but there may be a little early morning rain so bringing an umbrella is advised. Students should bring summer clothes as well as a pullover, waterproof jacket, swimwear, trainers (sports shoes) for outside usage, white-soled sports shoes for use in the sports hall, and a towel.
Students should also bring 2 x passport-sized photographs, an alarm clock and hairdryer (+ adapter) if needed. Students should remember to bring an adaptor for their mobile phone charger.
We advise that students do not bring valuable items such as expensive watches, jewellery, electronic items, cameras etc. However, valuables and items such as passports and airline tickets can be given to our staff for safekeeping. We cannot accept responsibility for the loss of items or money unless given to us for safekeeping.
