English Language School in Boston offers a Business English Program for executives, managers and other professionals of the business world who have limited time to improve their English-language skills. The Business English Program is a specialized course which is fast-paced, flexible and academically rigorous- one that compliments the very needs of the clientele it serves.

Business courses can be taken as an intensive one-week module or for an unlimited number of weeks. For maximum student-to-teacher attention, classes are small with a maximum of five students and a minimum of two.

At the school, we recognize your time is limited. Before your course begins, we send you a comprehensive needs-analysis to determine the exact areas of Business English you need to improve. Throughout the course, a weekly review of your strengths and weaknesses will be explained to you one-on-one by your teacher followed by a goal-setting plan for your remaining weeks of instruction. In addition to a final review upon completion of the course, students are sent home with a wealth of information and resources, and more importantly, an established e-mail contact with their teacher for future Business English advice.

In a group, as you will meet other professionals from other businesses and countries, maximize your exposure to a multi-cultural environment and work in teams or in a leadership role as you might in the workplace. Because of the small number of students per class and weekly individual review, the benefit of individual attention can still be expected as a strong feature of the course.

Private one-to-one lessons are especially practial for less advanced speakers, for those who want to concentrate on specific areas of business English or for those who prefer the personalized attention of private instruction, one-to-one lessons are ideal for those with strict time constraints and distinctive goals. Private lessons can be taken for an unlimited number of weeks.

Each day's lessons have a theme and progress from one topic to the next, as they might realistically take place in the workplace: Let's look at Monday's theme of First Meetings, Impressions and Relationship Building where you had the opportunity to meet with professionals in your industry and from many others. Your "pitch" was successful and your socializing skills impressive. As a result, you're meeting with an American associate for a business lunch on Tuesday that you have arranged and you must show him why your company is a good choice for a business relationship. Use your negotiating skills, close the deal and make your business trip something worth writing home about. Review your skills at the end of the day in "Skills Summary" to get feedback, evaluation and advice for improvement.

In a typical lesson, your objective is clearly stated and explained to you from the very beginning. As you learn to master each task, you will come closer to meeting your lesson objective. A complete list of skills practiced in the lesson is given to show you the exact areas of language you are focusing on. These skills and many of the tasks are reinforced throughout the day, the week and future lessons for maximum practice.

Let's look more in-depth at the first part of Tuesday's lesson, "Let's be pragmatic."

Module 1 Day 2 -- B1 - 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. -- "Mixing Business and Pleasure"

Objective: To engage in and facilitate "small talk", to host a client in a restaurant and to bring the topic from casual topics to the business at-hand.

Task: To facilitate and maintain a conversation about casual topics, to describe food and communicate information to and from the wait staff and client, and to make a transition from informal topics to more business-focused conversation.

Skills Practiced: communication of opinions and information about casual topics, descriptive food vocabulary/expressions, restaurant etiquette, and transition language
